DisputeShield

Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 29, 2026

We handle merchant, order, dispute, billing, browser, operational, and support data so Shopify teams can review risk, prepare evidence, and keep their workflows in one place.

Overview

This Privacy Policy explains how DisputeShield handles information when you visit our website, install the Shopify app, connect integrations, or use related services.

DisputeShield helps Shopify merchants review order risk and prepare dispute evidence. To do that, we process store data, order data, customer details, dispute records, support context, billing records, and operational records.

Information we collect

We collect information you provide, information from Shopify and connected services, and information created when your team uses the app.

  • Account and merchant details such as name, email address, role, store domain, company name, and support contacts.
  • Shopify store data including shop metadata, storefront and order records, fulfillment details, customer information, payment status, and dispute-related information.
  • Business profile and policy data such as support email, support phone, product categories, payment methods, policy URLs, terms URLs, checkout disclosures, and order-protection settings.
  • Integration data from connected systems such as Shopify, billing tools, support tools, and other providers you choose to connect.
  • Billing and subscription data such as plan selection, subscription status, usage caps, invoices, and payment-related records needed to manage your account.
  • Messages you send us, including support emails, onboarding requests, troubleshooting notes, and feedback.
  • Technical and usage data such as browser and device details, page activity, feature usage, error reports, and operational records.
  • Cookies and similar technologies used to keep the app working, support security, remember preferences, and understand product usage.

How we use information

We use information to run the service, protect the platform, and help merchants act on risk and dispute workflows.

  • Authenticate users and maintain secure app access.
  • Score order risk, show review reasons, and queue merchant actions.
  • Prepare dispute evidence, customer communication context, and support materials.
  • Sync records with connected providers so dispute, order, and message context appears in the right workflow.
  • Process billing, subscription changes, and usage limits.
  • Respond to support requests, troubleshoot issues, and improve the product.
  • Detect suspected abuse or fraud, debug errors, and maintain service integrity.
  • Comply with legal obligations, enforce our agreements, and preserve records where required.

How we share information

We do not sell personal information. We share information only when needed to run the product, support your account, comply with law, or complete a transaction you requested.

  • Service providers and infrastructure partners that help us host, store, secure, monitor, analyze, and deliver the app.
  • Shopify and other connected platforms you authorize, including integrations used to sync disputes, messages, orders, and billing data.
  • Analytics, logging, and error-reporting providers when product measurement or issue monitoring is enabled.
  • Support, ticketing, or customer communication tools when you connect them for dispute workflows.
  • Payment and billing partners that process subscription charges, invoices, or related transaction records.
  • Legal, compliance, or safety authorities when we believe disclosure is required by law, regulation, subpoena, or to protect rights and security.

Connected services and merchant data

When you connect Shopify or another provider, you instruct us to access and process the data available through that connection so we can provide the app.

Connected data may include order histories, customer messages, notes, attachments, dispute records, account metadata, and platform event records.

  • Shopify data is used to understand store context, detect risk signals, support account access, and respond to platform events.
  • Support platform data may be used to match customer conversations to disputes and generate evidence drafts.
  • Other payment or dispute services may provide alerts, case details, and resolution updates you authorize us to use.
  • Billing records are used to manage subscriptions and usage-based billing where applicable.

Cookies, local storage, and analytics

We use cookies, local storage, and similar technologies to keep the app working, support security, remember preferences, and understand how the product is used.

Where product analytics is enabled, analytics events are designed to avoid sensitive fields such as credentials, contact details, addresses, payment details, and verification details.

  • Essential browser storage helps the Shopify app function correctly.
  • Analytics cookies or storage may be used for product measurement and performance monitoring.
  • Essential cookies may be required for security, preferences, and basic site operation.
  • You can usually control cookies through your browser settings, but disabling them may affect app functionality.

Logs and issue monitoring

Like most web services, we collect logs and issue-monitoring records when the website or app is used. These records help us troubleshoot issues, monitor performance, protect accounts, and investigate security events.

  • Logs may include browser type, device information, referring pages, timestamps, error details, performance details, and similar operational information.
  • We may use service providers for error reporting and product analytics when those services are enabled.
  • We try to avoid sending sensitive merchant, customer, credential, address, and payment details into analytics or error-reporting systems.

Retention and deletion

We retain personal information for as long as needed to provide the service, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, and maintain operational records.

If you uninstall the app, we handle app-specific data in line with applicable Shopify requirements and our retention obligations. Some logs, billing records, and audit trails may remain for a limited period after deletion requests or uninstall events.

  • App access records tied to a Shopify installation may be removed when the uninstall flow runs.
  • Merchant records, invoices, or security logs may be retained where the law or operational needs require it.
  • We aim to delete or de-identify data when it is no longer needed for the purpose for which it was collected.

Your rights and choices

Depending on where you are located, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to certain processing of your personal information.

You may also be able to request portability, withdraw consent where processing is based on consent, opt out of certain sharing or sale as defined by local law, or appeal a rights request where local law provides that option.

  • Use your merchant account settings or contact us to request access or deletion.
  • If you want us to stop using a connected integration, disconnect it in the app or contact support.
  • If you are a customer of one of our merchants, please contact that merchant directly about their use of your information.
  • We will respond to verified rights requests within the time required by applicable law.

Security and international transfers

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect information against unauthorized access, loss, misuse, or disclosure.

Because we work with cloud infrastructure and service providers, your information may be processed in countries other than your own. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for those transfers.

  • Access to merchant data is limited to systems and personnel with a legitimate need to know.
  • We try to minimize the data included in analytics and error reports.
  • No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Children's privacy

DisputeShield is not directed to children and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age required by local law.

If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will take appropriate steps to review and delete it where required.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect product changes, legal requirements, or operational updates.

When we make material changes, we will update the date on this page and take additional steps if required by law.
